Can CBD Help With Anxiety?

There are countless studies and reports done on how CBD interacts with our bodies through our endocannabinoid system. When CBD enters the body, it interacts with cannabinoids (messenger molecules,) cannabinoid receptors (CB1 + CB2,) and the enzymes that break down those cannabinoids (FAAH + MAGL.) These are found in the central nervous system and the peripheral nervous system, the areas of our body that also creates the major mediators of anxiety disorders*

Anxiety held me captive for 48 years. I was filled with irrational fears, thoughts of dread, sadness, and fear of the near future. I was diagnosed with a serotonin imbalance in my early 20’s and had followed a conventional treatment utilizing selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRI) but I was still not satisfied.
After consulting with my healthcare provider, I decided to make a change and start utilizing CBD. I never expected the results to be so dramatic. A weight was taken off my chest and I was slowly becoming more myself. But how was this plant molecule making me feel more like myself? Mindset Wellness CBD was developed from this curiosity.

I’ve discovered a few studies that showcase evidence of the benefits of CBD for anxiety relief:

  1. When CBD was given to rodents, their “physiological symptoms of anxiety,” such as increased heart rate, improved.(Reference)

  2. A group of people suffering from Social Anxiety Disorder (SAD) were part of a trial where half were given 400 mg of CBD and the other half were given a placebo. Those who were given the CBD had less social anxiety. (*Reference)
What shocks me is that while there is so much evidence of the benefits of anxiety relief through CBD, the exact way CBD affects the receptors in the brain isn’t fully understood. CBD completely changed my relationship with my anxiety. My desire to learn more about this plant as well as share what I discovered with others inspired me to create Mindset Wellness CBD.
